A mounting method for every roof
No two roofs are the same — so the way we fix your panels matters just as much as the panels themselves. Whether yours is a standard tiled pitch, a sensitive period property or a flat commercial unit, there's a mounting system designed for it. Here are the three we install, and the quality hardware behind each one.
On-roof (on-rail)
The classic retrofit — panels on rails, above your existing tiles.
On-roof is the most common way to fit solar, and for good reason. Roof hooks are fixed securely to the rafters, aluminium rails run across them, and the panels clamp on just above the existing tiles or slates. The roof covering stays exactly as it is.
It's quick, cost-effective and suits the vast majority of pitched roofs — making it the natural choice for most retrofit installations. We use Renusol's German-engineered rail-and-clamp hardware, built to carry the array securely through decades of British weather.
Inset (in-roof)
Integrated into the roof for a flush, low-profile finish.
Inset — or in-roof — installations replace a section of tiles entirely. The panels drop into a watertight tray that sits flush within the roof plane, so the array reads as part of the roof rather than sitting on top of it. The result is sleek, low-profile and far more discreet.
It's the standout choice for new builds, full re-roofs, and properties where appearance and planning sensitivity matter most. We fit the BBA-certified GSE In-Roof System, whose integrated flashings make a fast, weathertight job and whose passive ventilation keeps the panels cool and performing at their best.
Flat roof
Ballasted, tilted frames — no penetrations through the membrane.
Flat roofs call for a different approach entirely. Rather than fixing through the roof, panels sit in tilted, ballasted frames that are weighted in place — angling the array to the ideal pitch and orientation without ever piercing the waterproof membrane.
It's ideal for commercial units, extensions, garages and outbuildings. We use the Renusol Console system: a clean, engineered tub design that spreads its load, sheds wind cleanly and keeps the roof covering completely intact.
